Raw opium use in town's Iraqi and Iranian communities
Oct 24 2008 by Andrew Hirst, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
RAW opium is being used in Huddersfield.
There have been a number of seizures of raw opium in the West Yorkshire area in recent weeks – and we believe there are links to Huddersfield.
In one of the seizures, the opium was found disguised as sweets in clear wrappers. If children had got hold of them, they could have died.
Det Con Russ Conlon said: "We are now getting the strong message out that opium is a Class A drug – and anyone caught with it will be arrested."
Some communities from around the world – specifically Iran and Iraq – regard opium use as part of their social lives.
