More British cycling success in China
SCHOLES man Tony Garrood raised thousands of pounds for charity after taking part in the trip of a lifetime.
The 61-year-old spent two weeks cycling through towns and villages in China and raised just over £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Tony was part of a team of 60 cyclists who took part in the charity challenge that raised a massive £500,000 for the organisation which supports people with cancer and their families by providing specialist information, treatment and care.
To complete the challenge – which covered places like Beijing and the Great Wall of China – the cyclists had to cycle 550 miles in some tough weather conditions.
Tony said: “It was a real challenge because of the kind of weather they had over there.
“It was so cold and wet and windy. There were also some very steep valleys and hills which were tough to cycle on.
“One day the weather got so bad I thought I was going to die of hypothermia.
“But I put my head down and kept going and ended up at the front of all the cyclists!
“But it was a fantastic experience and we saw some great sights. The infrastructure particularly was most impressive.
