Crackdown on weapons

METAL detector arches are to be used outside Huddersfield pubs to screen drinkers for weapons.

West Yorkshire Police will station the arches – like those found in airports and courts – on King Street on Friday.

The aim is to detect Hallowe’en revellers who may be carrying knives or firearms into pubs.

The arches have been used once before on King Street, on October 3, when 403 people passed through without weapons being found.

This time, they will be stationed outside Yates’ pub on the street.
