Free lecture on language

A HUDDERSFIELD University professor is giving a free lecture on the importance of language.

The lecture, called Language and Life: Stylistics in Poetry and Politics, takes place tomorrow and will be given by new professor of English language Lesley Jeffries.

Her inaugural professional lecture will outline her thinking on the continuing importance of language and interpretation.

The lecture will draw on her investigations into the language of newspapers and politicians, of women’s magazines and of some contemporary poetry.

Prof Jeffries will also explore some of the issues facing society that arise from the varying interpretations of language.
