Kirkheaton (October 21): Rita Brown, nee Lorriman, was able to give us more information on two Kirkheaton photographs.

She saw her father, Horace Lorriman, whose mobile fish and chip shop was based in the town. Mr Lorriman ran the fish and chip shop until about 1960 and later moved to Sowerby Bridge where he opened a cafe.

Mrs Brown also knew the Crank family, seen picking potatoes in 1962.The Crank family lived on Second Avenue and the mother had 10 sons.

She said every time Mrs Crank had a new son the young girls on the street would race to see the new arrival.

Mirfield (October 7): Gaynor Clegg (nee Smith) of Ravensthorpe recognised herself as Mirfield British Legion Gala Queen on the front page of the Yesteryears supplement (see picture right).

“My mum could not attend the ceremony because she had just given birth to my brother,” she said.

Gaynor’s page boy (extreme left, with cushion) was her neighbour, Geoffrey Senior.
