Merry Xmas-You're sacked: Kirklees tell 10,000 staff to sign up or push off

THOUSANDS of Kirklees Council workers face losing their jobs if they don’t sign new contracts.

More than 10,000 people have been told they will be offered new terms and conditions this month and if they refuse to sign they could be out.

The offer includes a part-payment of a new pay deal, which has yet to be agreed but is thought to be about 2.45%.

But in a letter to the affected staff a council official warns that if do not sign the new contracts they could be dismissed and will receive no redundancy money.

The council’s action has angered staff, who are warning of industrial action.

In a protest last night workers burned copies of the letter from the council’s human resources director, Cliff Stewart.
