More than 400 calls to fire service on bonfire night

BONFIRES kept fire crews in West Yorkshire busy overnight.

A total of 435 calls were received by the brigade between 6pm last night and 8am this morning.

But there were no major Bonfire Night incidents.

Among the calls were 140 small fires in the open and 59 bonfires.

A total of 27 property fires were reported, 21 vehicle fires, two house fires and four building fires.

There were 41 false alarms, mainly due to automatic fire alarms being accidentally set off, but the alarms also included bonfires that were under control and five malicious calls.

In Huddersfield, firefighters received 14 calls and had to attend eight of them.
