Call for speed cameras on Skelmanthorpe road
Nov 7 2008 by Sam Casey, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
FOUR out of 10 people in Skelmanthorpe want speed cameras installed on the village’s main road.
Skelmanthorpe Community Action Group (SCAG) carried out a survey on speeding.
It found that 40% of people wanted speed cameras or police checks at Commercial Road.
Nearly as many supported the idea of a priority zone on a narrow section of the road between Barrowstead and the Three Horse Shoes pub, to give traffic from one direction priority over the other.
Other suggestions included a 20mph limit, but only 19% wanted speed bumps.
Traffic lights at the junctions of Commercial Road with Cumberworth Lane and Station Road were also proposed.
There was concern for the lack of off-street parking in the village.
