Mirfield 25 decision delayed - meeting report

COUNCILLORS have delayed a decision on a major development in Mirfield.
Park Crescent wants to build offices and manufacturing units on a 30-acre site on Mirfield Moor – one of the few remaining green spaces along the A62 between Huddersfield and Leeds.
The Mirfield 25 plan, on land off Slipper Lane, also includes a retirement community for up to 344 people.
Kirklees Council’s Heavy Woollen Planning Sub-committee yesterday deferred a decision on the controversial plan until next month. The councillors decided to delay because the Highways Agency has yet to give its view on the proposal.
Residents lobbied sub-committee members when they visited Mirfield Moor before the meeting.
Nicola Musgrove, who lives on nearby Sunny Bank Road, said: “There were more than 20 of us there which was a good turnout considering it was short notice. We asked the councillors to look at the moor and see what we could be losing.”
