Posthumous award for brave Examiner journalist Adrian Sudbury
Nov 7 2008 by Katie Campling, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
CAMPAIGNING journalist Adrian Sudbury was given a posthumous honour at the Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards.
Examiner reporter Adrian, who died of leukaemia in August, was named Unsung Hero in the 16th annual awards last night.
The award recognised Adrian’s dedicated campaign to raise awareness about bone marrow donation in the last months of his life.
The 27-year-old was told his leukaemia was terminal in May. He decided to spend his remaining time lobbying the Government to improve education among teenagers about bone marrow donation.
His parents, Keith and Kay Sudbury, were at the Leeds United Conference and Exhibition Centre at Elland Road to collect the award from Steve Jowers, of Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets, who sponsored the Unsung Hero category.
