Workers told their jobs are safe - then made redundant

SCORES of workers at a Huddersfield firm have been made redundant just days after being told their jobs were safe.

Fifty employees of Greenberg Glass Emergency’s national call centre at Crosland Hill have lost their jobs after administrators moved in late on Wednesday afternoon.

The shock development comes less than a week after workers were told the business would not be affected by the collapse of Liverpool-based Greenberg Group Ltd, trading as Greenberg Glass Contracts.

Administrators from insolvency firm MCR were called into Greenberg Glass Contracts last week in the face of worsening market conditions.

Both the contracts and emergency glazing divisions are part of the Greenberg Group, but traded as separate companies.

A worker at Crosland Hill, who asked not to be named, said: “We were told our jobs were safe, but we have now been told we have been made redundant and that we will have to make a claim through the Government.
