Death of the local: Historic Marsden pub put on the market

CONCERNS have been raised about the sale of a Marsden pub.

The Old New Inn, on Carrs Road, is on sale for £200,000 with the intention that the property will be sold de-licensed.

Residents fear that the Grade II listed pub could be turned into a residential property.

It would be the loss of another local amenity for the village and yet another pub to close its doors in the area.

Marsden resident James Boothroyd said: “The fact that the pub is for sale without its licence tells us that it won’t be a pub anymore.

“Just asking around and trying to find out what it going on, I’ve seen that there is a lot of people in the village who seem to be quite concerned about it.

“It will be a loss of another amenity for the village.

“The pub is still running and there are still people who use the pub, the difficulty of course is the rise in costs so anybody wanting to put their heart and soul into it is just going to be penalised by the cost.

“We don’t blame Enterprise [Inns], they have a business to run, but we’d like to know what will happen to it.”
