Remembrance services honour dead
Nov 10 2008 By Barry Gibson
HUNDREDS of people gathered in Huddersfield yesterday to remember the war dead.
Soldiers past and present took part in a march from Victoria Lane to Huddersfield Parish Church at 10.30am.
The parade was led by Hade Edge Band, who were followed by marchers from the Royal British Legion, the RAF, the Sea Cadets and the Territorial Army. Huddersfield Youth Band brought up the rear.
The marchers then gathered in the church for a service of remembrance for those killed in wars since 1914.
Deputy Mayor of Kirklees Clr Julie Stewart-Turner took part in the parade.
She said: "We had a really good turnout for the parade and there were quite a lot of people who came out to watch. The weather stayed pleasant as well, which was good.
"The service went exceptionally well and the two-minute silence was perfectly observed, all you could hear were the church bells chiming."
