70 out of a job as Age Concern charity closes
Nov 12 2008 By Andrew Jackson
AGE Concern in Kirklees is closing, putting 70 workers out of a job.
The area’s major source of support and advice for thousands of older people will cease trading by the end of the month.
Charity bosses say the Kirklees branch is no longer viable "following a long term decline in income and increasing costs".
The charity’s office and shop on Cross Church Street will close on Friday.
The future of other Age Concern charity shops in Dewsbury and Holmfirth is uncertain, but the Age Concern mobility centre in Cleckheaton is to close.
Some Age Concern shops and offices are run by the national concern while other shops are run by locally-based branches like Age Concern Kirklees (ACK).
