Lifeline thrown to Age Concern

THE DOOMED branch of a charity for the elderly is to be saved by a neighbouring section of the organisation.

Age Concern Kirklees (ACK) which provides vital services to thousands of old people, is folding because of rising costs and income loss.

But neighbour Age Concern Calderdale (ACC) has offered to take over most services including its advice centres and insurance policies.

Other saved services include the day centre at Bradley and the charity’s home cleaning service, used by more than 500 older people.

Advice centres at Huddersfield and Cleckheaton will remain open while 70 threatened jobs are expected to be temporarily saved.
