A COMMUNITY centre in Huddersfield has been badly damaged by a serious blaze.
Firefighters were called to Thornton Lodge Community Centre on Brook Street in Thornton Lodge at 1.20am today.
The first crews on the scene immediately called for back-up and, at its height, eight fire engines were tackling the blaze.
A West Yorkshire Fire And Rescue Service spokesman said: “The initial call was to a fire in the open, but it turned out to be the building itself. At its height we had nine large water jets and an hydraulic platform in use.”
