Councillors tried to ‘hoodwink’ parents over school closures
Nov 18 2008 by Barry Gibson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
He said: “Only a couple of weeks ago they were arguing that closing Castle Hall was in the interests of young people and now they are claiming that they have saved the school. It honestly beggars belief.
“The truth is they were wrong when they thought they could bulldoze Castle Hall and they are profoundly wrong if they think they can mislead people into believing they’ve saved Castle Hall.”
Mr Malik added: “The actions of these so-called politicians have at best been cowardly. Not only have they cruelly failed to support parents and young people who have almost begged for their support but instead they have attempted to cynically hoodwink them – they truly ought to be ashamed of themselves.”
But Clr Lees said the press report of her views had been inaccurate.
She said: “I’m quite cross that they saw fit to add words to my original press release.”
And Clr Lees said she had always been against closing Castle Hall.
