Nine fined £4,900 for garden eyesores

She was fined £65, ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £400 court costs.

All the other guilty parties were fined £350, ordered to pay £15 victim surcharges and court costs of varying amounts.

Carol Holberry, prosecuting for Kirklees, said: “The local authority has the power to serve notices on occupiers telling them to clear unsightly waste away which is detrimental to the area.

“They should also take all reasonable steps to prevent it from becoming defaced again.”
