Holmfirth lights stayed up all year due to cash shortage to take them down

HOLMFIRTH’S Christmas lights may seem a little familiar when they’re switched on at the end of this month.
That’s because they’re the same lights which have remained in the town since they were installed last Christmas.
Holme Valley Business Association Lights Fund ran out of cash and was unable to pay to have the illuminations removed.
The fund’s vice-chairman Caroline Anstey says health and safety regulations and subsequent rising costs mean the decorations became an everyday sight.
