A FORMER Royal Navy officer from Huddersfield is in a Spanish jail accused of murder.
Ex-submariner William Madley appeared in court in Spain accused of murdering a Scottish businessman in Barcelona last month.
The body of Derek Cowan, 46, originally from Larkhall, was discovered in his Spanish apartment on October 8.
William Madley, also 46, who left Huddersfield several years ago to start a new life in Spain, was arrested by police in Barcelona at the weekend after a five-week search.
He was caught at the Estacio de Sants, one of the city’s two major railway stations.
He was sent to the city’s Modelo prison to await trial after appearing before an investigating judge at a closed door hearing.
