DISCOUNT supermarket chain Aldi is set to open the first of three planned stores in Huddersfield this month.
The German-owned company is completing work to fit out its first store in the town at the former rugby union ground off Wakefield Road at Waterloo.
The store, which will have 15 staff, is due to open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony next Thursday.
Area manager Phil Isherwood is now recruiting a similar number of staff for its second Huddersfield store, which will open next February at the Ringway Industrial Estate, off St John’s Road.
And plans are on the drawing board for a third store to open at a later date, although a site has not been finalised.
Mr Isherwood said the company was enjoying a rise in sales as shoppers sought “value for money” goods in the economic downturn.
