Bus workers’ training centre opens

A NEW training centre for bus workers has opened at Waterloo.

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman officially opened the new centre at Huddersfield Bus Company on Penistone Road.

The centre has been created by Centrebus, owner of the company, and Unite, the trade union representing staff at the depot.

The facility will provide essential training to Huddersfield Bus Company drivers, engineers and managers – particularly focusing on customer care and service quality.

Drivers will be able to work towards a National Vocational Qualification in Customer Care and gain skills to meet the new driver’s Certificate of Professional Confidence.

Peter Harvey, managing director for Centrebus, said: “I am totally confident that this investment will deliver benefits for our staff, customers, and the local community alike.”

The facility will also be used to train K-Line staff. K-Line operates a number of local services across Huddersfield.
