How clean is your hand? Check at HRI!

HOSPITAL visitors can try a special piece of equipment to see how clean their hands are.

The infection control lightbox in the foyer at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary uses ultra-violet rays to show where hands are clean and where they could be cleaner, such as under rings and jewellery.

Infection control nurse Jennie Dunkerley said: “All staff in all roles are well aware of how important hand hygiene is on the wards. It is simple and very effective.

“But if any member of the public wishes to make doubly sure we would always say ask us to wash them again.”

In audits staff at the hospital consistently have a 99% compliance rate for regular hand hygiene.
