Villagers face more months of traffic hold-ups

A VILLAGE’S residents face months of traffic hold-ups as repairs to a road bridge have been delayed.

Marsden residents say a temporary bridge over another one, Ottiwells Bridge, has caused problems on Carrs Road for three years.

But Kirklees Council will not be fixing the bridge until next summer after repairs scheduled for spring this year were delayed due to lack of money.

A temporary, single-lane bridge was constructed on top of the existing weak bridge, which could take two-way traffic. Repairs to strengthen the original bridge will cost £600,000.

Traffic lights have been put up on either side of the single-lane bridge. But villagers say problems with the timing of the lights have led to motorists ignoring them or getting impatient and driving straight through, even if the lights are on red.

Sarah Davies lives on Mount Road, which becomes Carrs Road.
