‘Bizarre’ Festival of Light under attack by the public

THE weekend’s Festival of Light has been called a disaster by scores of people who braved the cold to watch it.

This year’s parade, staged over two days, saw crowds of thousands flocking to Huddersfield town centre.

But many were left disappointed and contacted the Examiner to say they found it bizarre and difficult to see.

Some slammed the performance, which featured dummies being hung from gallows and burned and gun-like gestures, as totally unsuitable for families.

Others complained that they couldn’t see much of what was going on and that children were left bored.

Kirklees Council leader Robert Light defended this year’s festival as being the best that could have been staged under the circumstances, but said he was sorry if the public felt they had been let down.
