Blaze wrecks premises of jobs crisis Huddersfield firm

A WOMAN out walking her dog saved a Huddersfield call centre from being gutted by fire.

But the former Greenberg Glass Emergency’s national call centre at Crosland Hill was still badly damaged by the inferno, which broke out early yesterday.

Fire chiefs say the blaze would have been even worse if it had not been spotted by the woman at 4.15am.

The fire engulfed a corridor and storage areas and then spread upstairs through ceiling voids into offices above the Blackmoorfoot Road building.

It was a tough blaze to bring under control, with five fire engines and 25 firefighters needed to tackle it.

Crews came from Huddersfield, Slaithwaite, Meltham and Elland.

The entire inside of the open-plan building has been badly smoke-damaged.
