Artists seek spare chairs

HUDDERSFIELD community artists are desperately seeking unwanted chairs for a recycling project.
A total of 30 to 50 matching, stackable wooden seats are needed for the project, which aims to create a colourful collection of revamped seating for community use.
The appeal for spare chairs is being run by Slaithwaite artist Jenny Parkin, photographer Dave Cowan, of Lockwood, and film-maker Beverley Addy, of Linthwaite.
Jenny said: “It’s a long shot, I know, but we have our fingers crossed that somewhere in the town there’s someone with some unwanted chairs, maybe taking up much-needed room in a hall or store.
“Our project will involve art workshops to paint old chairs and personalise them in a funky modern sort of cross between pop art and decoupage. It’ll be good fun and hopefully bring some old furniture back into use!”
