£80,000 boost for Adrian Sudbury campaign

CAMPAIGNING journalist Adrian Sudbury’s dying wish to see bone marrow donation talks in schools is one step closer today thanks to £40,000 in Government cash.

And a company is giving the same amount.

The money will pay for a pilot scheme to explore how best to educate young people about blood, bone marrow and organ donation.

The cash is a direct result of Examiner reporter Adrian’s campaign to improve education about donation in schools and colleges.

Adrian, 27, started his Sign Up For Sudders campaign in May after being told his leukaemia was terminal.

He met Health Secretary Alan Johnson and Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families.

Both their departments have been in talks with the Anthony Nolan Trust, which runs one of the UK’s two bone marrow registers, about the pilot scheme.

Today, the departments officially agreed to give the money for the pilot.
