£80,000 boost for Adrian Sudbury campaign

Adrian died in August after his two-year battle against leukaemia.

His parents, Keith and Kay, said he would have been pleased with today’s announcement.

Keith said: “We are hugely encouraged that Government funds are being made available for a pilot project and we are grateful to all the people who have worked so hard to turn Adrian’s campaign into a positive reality.

“Adrian’s vision will save lives not only in the short term but for years to come.”

Accountancy firm Baker Tilly is matching the Government’s cash, so £80,000 is available for the scheme,

Now the Anthony Nolan Trust must work with NHS Blood and Transplant, which looks after blood, bone marrow and organ donation, to come up with a proposal for exactly how the pilot scheme will work.

It is expected to involve training volunteers to give talks to students in selected regions around the UK.

Colne Valley MP Kali Mountford, who was instrumental in the campaign, said she was delighted.
