Anniversary year leavers receive certificates

RECENT pupils of an Almondbury school were rewarded for their achievements as the school marks its 400th anniversary.

This year’s leavers of King James’ School were presented with certificates of achievements by the Earl of Dartmouth.

More than 1,000 people attended the ceremony.

Deputy head teacher Patrick O’Brien said: “We are delighted to welcome the earl. His family has a long-standing connection with the school.

“It is a chance for last year’s year 11 pupils to come back and be awarded for their achievements.”

Head teacher Robert Lamb gave a speech about the pupils’ achievements, while Kirklees mayor Clr Karam Hussain also attended the fourth centenary celebrations.

The school, at St Helen’s Gate, has also been holding other events to mark the 400 years celebration.
