Two dramatic road smashes - a minute apart

TWO dramatic road crashes happened in Huddersfield – just a minute apart.

In one, fire crews had to cut the car apart around the stricken driver and in the other a lamp-post crashed down on a hatchback car.

The first call came just after 8.50am yesterday after a water delivery van and a Vauxhall Astra crashed at the junction of Penistone Road and Cumberworth Lane, just above the Sovereign crossroads near Upper Cumberworth.

Crew manager Richard Robinson from Holmfirth fire station said: “It was a side impact collision and the driver’s door had taken the brunt of the impact.

“The driver was complaining about pains to his side, so we had to move him as little as possible to get him out.

“We took the side of the car off to give us more room and then removed the roof so he could be gently lifted free.”
