24 jobs to go at Huddersfield Examiner

THE Huddersfield Daily Examiner has announced the loss of 24 jobs.

19 of the losses will be amongst the transport department as the paper moves to overnight production. There will also be the loss of one post in the newspaper sales department.

The decision means the Examiner will available in the shops first thing in the morning from Monday, December 15.

Four editorial roles will be lost as part of the paper's streamlining and upgrade of its newsroom operation.

Editor Roy Wright said: "Our market research clearly showed readers want the Examiner available much earlier in the morning and the best way to do this is to print overnight.

"The Examiner will still be crammed with local news and sport - but available earlier. We will continue to break news during the day on the www.examiner.co.uk website.

“We need to remain at the forefront of the on-line revolution while ensuring that readers don’t see any detriment to the Examiner.

“We'll still have a strong network of news gatherers but the new streamlined structure mean we can scale back some editorial positions.

"These changes are linked to our digital plans and will benefit web viewers plus safeguard circulation and the long term future of the Examiner."

The company is now entering into a period of consultation with affected staff.
