Cemeteries to get £291,000 of improvements

A £291,000 improvement scheme for Kirklees cemeteries has been approved.

Kirklees Council Cabinet approved the scheme of work which will improve roads, paths, landscaping and provide new facilities at cemeteries around the district.

A total of £100,000 will be spent improving access roads and footpaths at cemeteries in Batley, Liversedge, Kirkheaton, Earlsheaton, Lockwood and Slaithwaite.

Cabinet members approved £10,000 to be spent on new or replacement signs at cemeteries and the same amount to rebuild a damaged retaining wall at Slaithwaite cemetery.

Earlsheaton cemetery is to get £20,000 for a remembrance garden. There will also be £50,000 spent on providing 170 sanctums for interring cremated remains at Earlsheaton and Batley cemeteries and Huddersfield Crematorium.
