Drunken man killed by train at Deighton
Nov 27 2008 by Emma Davison, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Tests showed that Mr Burnikell, of Sunderland, was three and a half times over the drink-drive limit when he was hit.
The inquest heard he had a history of drug and alcohol abuse but had appeared recovering when he died.
Coroner Roger Whittaker recorded an accidental verdict. He said: “The way he was standing with his hands on the platform gives me the impression that he was trying to get away from the train and not trying to stand in front of it to take his own life.
“It was a tragic accident while he was inebriated.”
