MP blasts Christmas cards as 'waste of money'

“I call on local businesses and organisations not to send cards.

“It’s an environmental disaster and a waste of money.”

He said the use of paper and the emissions from delivering cards had an adverse impact on the environment.

Mr Sheerman has donated £500 to charity from money saved by not sending cards in each of the last two years.

He plans to give £600 away this year.

And he urged businesses: “Give the money to charity instead.”
