Water park and slides plan for new sports centre

HUDDERSFIELD could get an ambitious family-friendly water park as part of the huge sports centre redevelopment.

Controversial plans for the new sports centre now include details of a leisure park inside the building.

This would feature flume slides, a Sidewinder ride, a man-made beach, a wave machine and a lazy river.

The nearest Sidewinder ride – which allows people to ride down steep slopes on inflatables – is in Blackpool.

Those attractions – aimed at families who currently take their children to theme parks – will sit alongside traditional swimming and diving pools.

Councillors hope the proposed attractions will mean the new centre would be a big hit.
