Water park and slides plan for new sports centre

Councillors hope to submit planing applications in February, 2009, with opening targeted by early 2012.

But the Cabinet was told in a report: “The scheme can only proceed if the council receives planning permission for the new sports centre, and Tesco receives full permission for a new store at Southgate and outline permission for mixed-use redevelopment at Viaduct Street.

“This is because funding of the new sports centre is dependent on the sale of council-owned land at Southgate to Tesco, and the Viaduct Street proposals include replacement social housing and public car parking.”

Financial details have not been disclosed.
