Cancer-stricken grandad campaigns for early diagnosis
HE went for a routine check-up to his doctor.
But now Huddersfield grandad Terry McDermott is campaigning to highlight the importance of early detection in the fight against lung cancer.
Mr McDermott, 69, of Newsome, had his lung cancer detected as a result of a routine visit to his GP surgery.
He had gone for a diabetes check-up, but during the visit to nurse practitioner Sheila Dawson she was concerned about his cough and it was suggested he went for tests at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
Mr McDermott, of Newsome, was referred for an X-ray, but at first didn’t go.
His daughter-in-law, Nicky, told him he must attend – so he did.
He had an X-ray, CT scan and a biopsy at HRI where the cancer was confirmed.
