Cancer-stricken grandad campaigns for early diagnosis
Health experts say that if any symptoms of lung cancer persist for more than three weeks, people should visit their GP, particularly if they smoke or used to smoke.
Mr McDermott said the professional care he received at HRI from all the medical teams at the hospital put him at ease throughout.
They included Dr Annika Graham and the Trust’s Macmillan lung cancer specialist nurses, Helen Jones and Angela Robinson.
Mr McDermott, who used to run an electrical contracting business and shops in Huddersfield, said: “My cancer was found by chance, but I would urge anyone with any worries to get them checked out.
“The nurses and doctors were so professional and so caring, I was no longer frightened about having cancer. I had the tests, the diagnosis and the operation very quickly and I’m here to tell the tale.”
