Mobile units launched

A NEW outreach service to bring activities to young people is being launched in Kirklees.
Mobile units will go out to areas where they are currently no youth centres or provision for young people.
Three new units will soon be operating in both rural and urban locations across the district for 20 hours a week, mainly after school, on evenings and weekends.
They will be manned by teams of council outreach workers, assistant youth workers, recreation staff and drivers.
The units will provide sports and arts activities and information and advice for youngsters aged 13 to 19.
Young people can also learn about what their local area has to offer and find out about opportunities to gain skills or accreditation.
Kirklees Council cabinet approved £200,000 to fund the scheme on Wednesday.
The scheme was proposed by the Liberal Democrat group on Kirklees Council.
Clr Kath Pinnock, Lib Dem spokeswoman for young people’s services, said: “Young people across the borough deserve equal access to services and resources targeted specifically at them and their needs.”
