Shop owner loses fight over neon light signs
A LINTHWAITE chip shop owner has been ordered to remove neon signs after losing a battle with Kirklees Council.
Former professional rugby league player Adam Fogerty has been told he must take down the brightly-lit signs from his shop, Harry Heywoods, by December 22.
Mr Fogerty – an actor who has played roles in gangster films – took over the Manchester Road shop a year ago and put up the £4,000 signs in the hope they would be eye-catching and draw in passing trade.
But eight months ago, Kirklees Council received several complaints about the lights from people living at Manchester Road.
Mr Fogerty appealed, but his plea was rejected. He appealed again and last week the final decision was made in the council’s favour.
