Birstall Library and Information Centre opened in 2004 – the first in a radical Kirklees programme to convert libraries into Library and Information Centres.
The centre hosts events including author visits, storytelling, craft and learning sessions and provides a focal point for the community.
The Kirklees Partners Outreach Service was second in two categories – Making The Connections and Working Together To Improve.
Making the Connections recognises authorities for effective communication.
Working Together To Improve recognises where authorities and others have successfully worked together to improve service provision.
The Kirklees Outreach Partnership involves council, health services and voluntary groups.
