'Towering inferno' as neighbours evacuated

“What concerned me was there were families on either side.”

Jim Butters, West Yorkshire Fire Service’s Group Manager, said: “Everyone has been evacuated and emergency services are looking after their welfare.

“We will make a thorough search to check there are no embers left and make sure the premises is safe.

“Fire investigation teams and police scenes of crime officers will investigate the area tomorrow.

“I want to reinforce the safety message and urge people to get a working smoke alarm.

“Call 0800 587 4536 and fire crews will come and do a free fire safety check in your home and issue you with a free smoke alarm.”
