Jobs to go at big building firm

A BUILDING products firm based in Huddersfield is set to axe jobs at its West Yorkshire sites.
Marshalls, which has its registered office at Birkby as well as sites at Elland and Southowram, said further redundancies were needed following the loss of 140 jobs with the closure of its manufacturing bases in Cannock, Staffordshire, and Sawley, Nottinghamshire.
In a notice to staff, chief operating officer David Sarti said it was holding consultations to highlight proposals to reduce employee numbers employed across all areas of its business, including operations, administration and management.
Wherever possible, the company would avoid compulsory redundancies by accepting volunteers or reducing its limited use of agency labour.
