Cancer victim Penny helped in spa vouchers plight
A DYING woman who criticised a “heartless” Huddersfield health spa says a kind Examiner reader has restored her faith in human nature.
As reported last month, terminal cancer patient Penny Westwood was refused a refund by Titanic Spa in Linthwaite for some gift vouchers bought by her family for her 60th birthday.
Mrs Westwood, of Bradford, said she felt uncomfortable about having the treatments because of her condition and would rather spend the money on her seven grandchildren.
But the spa, on Low Westwood Lane, said it had a strict no-refund policy.
It offered instead to extend the time limit. Staff also told Mrs Westwood she could use the vouchers to have her hair done – even though she had lost it all through chemotherapy.
Edgerton man Stuart Bethel contacted the Examiner after being moved by the story.
