Top cop visits rural villages
Dec 11 2008 by Andrew Hirst, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
THE new police commander for Huddersfield and Dewsbury is learning about his new patch at first hand.
Chief Supt John Robins has been to some rural areas in the first of a series of days out, meeting people to talk about policing issues and crime concerns.
Chief Supt Robins visited wards in the Kirkburton and Denby Dale areas with Insp Nick Harvey, who is in charge of the Kirkburton and Denby Dale Neighbourhood Policing Team.
The day started in Flockton where he met up with parish councillor Jimmy Paxton before moving on to Skelmanthorpe to patrol around the village with councillors Jim Dodds and John Cook.
He also met chairman of the local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in Birds Edge, Christine Wilson, to hear her views on how neighbourhood policing was working in the area.
It was then onto Kirkburton to meet with councillors Christine Smith and Adrian Murphy along with shopkeepers.
