Alcohol abuse warning to young wins award

A PROJECT tackling alcohol misuse among young people will benefit by an extra £10,000.

A film by Adolescents Anonymous challenges the effects of alcohol misuse on three young people and showed teenagers how it impacted on their lives.

The success of the Kirklees Council-backed project, which included a DVD, has led to organisers winning £10,000 at an awards ceremony.

Clr Jim Dodds, Cabinet member for children and young people, said: “We really are leading the field on this very important issue.

“We must make young people aware of the dangers of excessive alcohol use and the damage this can cause in their later life.

“This is only a small part of a wider campaign that we are promoting to get the messages across to all young people of the dangers that they face as they grow up in these demanding times.”
