Christmas joy as Sophie gets bone marrow transplant
Dec 15 2008 by Neil Atkinson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
IT’S a smile of hope and of joy.
Brave Sophie Edwards is back home – after a courageous battle against leukaemia.
And, thanks to an anonymous bone marrow donor, she and her family can start to dream of a fun-filled family Christmas.
“Without that donor coming forward, Sophie would not have survived” said a grateful dad, Andrew Edwards.
“To be honest, had it not been for the Anthony Nolan Trust and the donor register which tracked down a suitable donor, Sophie would not have been here.
“The bone marrow transplant was her only chance.
“I just hope others learn from her story, and that of former Examiner journalist Adrian Sudbury, and come forward to register with the Anthony Nolan Trust”.
Adrian died in August after an 18-month battle with leukaemia.
He too underwent a bone marrow transplant but, sadly, his body rejected the donor marrow and he lost his life.
