ELLAND’S bid for a new railway station is a little nearer thanks to Calderdale Council being awarded a share of £6m from the Government.
Calderdale, Wakefield and Barnsley councils put in bids for cash from the Government’s growth fund.
A total of £6m will be shared between the three areas and spent on transport improvements, new health facilities, schools and new housing.
Among the projects are plans to create a railway station in Elland.
Clr Ian Cooper, council Cabinet member for housing, said the funding would make a huge difference to Calderdale.
“This is an exciting opportunity. We can carefully plan and provide for our future needs.”
The idea of a train station at Elland has been discussed several times over the past few years and £350,000 has been spent on designs for the facility.
