Aiming to survive the blow of Summer Wine end

BUSINESSES in the Holme Valley are confident they would survive the end of Last Of The Summer Wine.
Greg Christofi, vice-president of Holme Valley Business Association, said the end of the series would be a blow to the trade they had enjoyed because of the tourism the show attracts to Holmfirth.
But businesses were already looking into alternatives to draw in visitors.
Mr Christofi said interest in Summer Wine would sustain tourism in the short term.
He said: “It is going to be missed. It brought a lot of business to Holmfirth and a lot of enjoyment to people.
“The interest people have will still bring them in to visit the place where it was filmed. There is still big interest in repeats of the show, especially in America.
“Businesses in the long-term may struggle though.
“We have to think of the future and try to market the Holme Valley to visitors in other ways. Hopefully we will find an alternative to Last Of The Summer Wine.”
